Rainy Newcastle Brickfest 2022 a hit with families

Raising money for the John Hunter Children's Hospital Kids Club, Newcastle Brickfest has been a favourite event of the Southern Cross Garrison's Hunter Hornet Squad for a number of years. After two years of postponement and cancellations, it was great to be back supporting the event. For some of our members, it was their first chance to be back in costume since the pandemic.

Spanning two days, The Newcastle Jockey Club was filled with amazing, detailed Lego builds including a number of spectacular Star Wars displays. During the Saturday setup, our troopers closely inspected the displays and take inspiration to finish our own builds.

Our cast of characters including Stormtroopers, Clones, Pilots, mischievous Jawas, Kylo Ren as well as various Jedi roamed the floor all weekend, enjoying their time with the eager public and excited exhibitors with lots of high-5s and photos!

C3PO’s quote “Not Entirely Stable” perfectly captured the essence of Sunday’s event with torrential rain and flooding impacting the venue. However, the rain failed to deter the crowds with streams of families enjoying photos with our Star Wars characters and in awe of the incredible Lego displays.

The hero of the weekend was CJ with their Ahsoka costume. Countless children approached Ahsoka and beamed happily as they were handed a lightsaber to pose for a photo with their favourite character.

The Hunter Hornet Squad can't wait to attend Newcastle Brickfest 2023, hoping for a much dryer event next year!
